Police have sealed off a Co-op in Perthshire after a break-in last night.
A police vehicle is in place outside the store in Alyth’s Market Square after the incident at 11.30pm on Monday.
Locals claimed that the thieves had targeted the store’s cigarette counter.
One woman, who did not want to be identified, said: “Someone told me they heard the alarm going last night and when my husband got up to go to work at 5.15am it was all cordoned off.
“We had a plain-clothed police officer in. She said they’d been broken into and they’d gone for the cigarettes.”
A police spokeswoman said: “There’s been a break-in. Enquiries are at an early stage to see what has been taken.”
