A 21-year-old yesterday admitted smashing up his home with a hammer and threatening to kill police during a stand-off lasting several hours.
Numerous neighbouring houses were evacuated as Brandyn Campbell smashed items with a hammer and hurled electrical items out of the broken windows.
More than a dozen police, including a specialist operational support unit, cordoned off Campbell’s home in Perth while negotiators tried to talk to him.
Campbell appeared from custody yesterday and admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner at Campsie Road on Sunday.
He admitted shouting, swearing and making offensive remarks, smashing doors and windows with a hammer and threatening to kill police.
Campbell, who has been bailed to stay with his mother in Scone, also admitted persistently calling the police to make abusive remarks while he was on bail.
A small crowd gathered as Campbell came to the windows of his home and threw items, including a kettle, out into the street.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis released Campbell on bail and deferred sentence for the preparation of social work and psychiatric reports until December.
A neighbour said: “It all kicked off on Sunday morning.
“We heard all these crashing sounds so we went out to have a look and could see various things being chucked out of the window.
“There were loads of police here – about 15 or 16 of them eventually – and all the residents in the neighbouring houses were evacuated.”
