A killer who sped off and dragged a police officer along the ground hit speeds of more than 100mph while almost six times the drink-drive limit.
Drunken Shane Seale – who has a conviction for culpable homicide – had been stopped by police but sped off as one female officer reached into his vehicle in a bid to grab his keys.
His own dashcam footage helped to convict him.
Another officer used her baton to smash his windscreen, while PC Katherine Knox was dragged 20 metres along the road until she was knocked free.
Despite the broken windscreen hampering his view in the dark, Seale hit speeds of 108mph on various roads, Perth Sheriff Court was told.
The footage recorded by his own Vauxhall Astra’s dashcam was played in court and showed him talking to the police before ignoring their instructions and speeding off.
He said: “Come on guys, are you serious? I’ve not done anything wrong. Just leave me alone. I’m sleeping in the car.”
The female officer’s scream could clearly be heard as Seale put his foot down while two other officers had to jump out of his path.
The removal man then drove for 25 miles from Auchterarder to his home in Kippen and the footage showed him speeding along country roads at nearly twice the 60mph limit.
He persistently veered on to the opposing carriageway and, at one point, is going so fast that he misses the turn off for Kippen.
Seale slammed on the brakes, reversed along the wrong side of the road and then took the slip road.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson said officers had spoken to Seale outside a pub several hours earlier and he was already drunk by then.
When he was finally breath tested after his arrest he was nearly six times the limit.
She said the officers then spoke to Seale’s wife on an unrelated matter and she confirmed that he was very drunk. He was found in a car nearby.
“Four officers approached and the engine was running. He was trying to reverse. He appeared to be heavily under the influence of alcohol.
“He was asked to turn off the engine and hand over the keys. They asked him to exit but he refused,” Miss Robertson told the court.
“The officer leaned into the car and took hold of his wrist to apply handcuffs.
He tried to close the door on her but another officer grabbed the door to stop him.
“He tried to drive away. One officer struck the windscreen with her baton, shattering it to try to stop him.
“He continued to drive away, dragging PC Knox along with him.
“She was dragged along about 20 metres and injured her knee. Two other officers had to jump out of the way. He mounted the kerb, then drove to his home 25 miles away.
“The dashcam shows him regularly exceeding the speed limit including reaching 108mph on a 60mph limit road.”
Officers eventually had to force entry to his home and found Seale in his T-shirt and boxer shorts.
Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said Seale was self-employed but would lose his removal business as a result of the driving ban he would inevitably get.
Seale, 47, The Old Nursery, Kippen, admitted culpably and recklessly driving while dragging PC Knox along to her injury on December 1 last year.
He also admitted driving dangerously and at excessive speed towards PCs Dianne Todd and Mandy Shepherd and forcing them to jump out of his way.
He admitted driving with a broken windscreen when it was dark and while he was heavily under the influence of alcohol.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis imposed an interim driving ban and deferred sentence for reports until next month.
