A new Post Office is set to open in Bridgend in the new year, making it the only branch between Coupar Angus and Perth City Centre.
The branch will be opened by Ian Morgan at his News Direct Perth newsagents shop around February.
Mr Morgan previously launched a bid to reopen the Post Office in Scone but was forced to pull out of the deal after a dispute with Post Office chiefs over staffing requirements.
Mr Morgan is set to expand his newsagent business in order to house the new branch.
He said: “We went for the one in Scone and we spent about £2,000 in fees and it was a complete non-starter.
“So we applied for a Post Office in Bridgend and we’ve got confirmation of that.
“We’ve bought up the shop next door and the idea is to move some of our store in to the shop next door and put the Post Office in our newsagents.
“It’s nice to get some positive news, there’s not many businesses opening up these days.
“Very rarely is there a new Post Office. It’s going to be the only one between Perth and Coupar Angus.”
The shop owner said he has received positive feedback from local residents and business owners regarding his plans.
He also believes the location of the shop, just across the river from the city centre on West Bridge Street, will suit people coming from both directions.
The newsagent is also hopeful of returning the Post Office and shop into a mini-community meeting point.
Mr Morgan said: “Our aim is to make this the hub of the community.
“The Post Office used to be the hub when people used to come and pick up their pension or post their cards.”
The Scone Post Office has been shut for nearly year after closing its doors in January with the organisation issuing numerous appeals for retailers or small business owners to reopen the branch.
A Post Office spokesperson said the Bridgend application had “gone through the recruitment stage” and that they “plan to open a new branch in the area” though it would be a few months into the new year.
