Big-hearted Perthshire rugby players served up hot dinners to homeless people in the Fair City this weekend in a bid to spread some Christmas cheer.
Members of Perthshire Rugby Club teamed up with award-winning chef Jeremy Wares to help cook and serve roast dinners for those less fortunate at the Salvation Army in Skinnergate on Sunday.
Former Michelin star recipient Jeremy is heavily involved with the rugby club and suggested they join him in giving something back to the community.
Jeremy said: “The reason we’re doing it is that we feel as rugby players and people that are involved in the club we don’t know how lucky we are.
“We thought that we should give something back.
“So myself and the club captain Ewan Mackessack-Leitch came up with the idea that we would feed the homeless and we agreed that we would do Sunday lunch.
“It’s a really good event for us and it has a feel good factor.”
The club fed around 40 people at the Skinnergate with players taking part in the cooking and serving and the young team donating around 100 shoe boxes full of presents.
Ewan Mackessack-Leitch said it was great to see members of the club at all levels get involved in the day.
He said: “It’s really quite nice to see. The presents have been wrapped by the minis section and the players are in the kitchen.
“One player dressed up as Father Christmas and gave out the presents.
“We’re a community led club and we’re trying to spread some Christmas cheer.
“It has been a whole club effort, donations have come from across the club, including parents and sponsors.
“We just want to say thank you to the people that support us.”
Perthshire Rugby Club have a history of charitable acts with the team raising thousands of pounds for Doddie Weir’s motor neuron disease charity last year during their 150th anniversary celebrations.
