A would-be robber burst into a store in Kirkcaldy and threatened the shopkeeper with a knife before fleeing empty-handed.
Detectives are appealing for information on the incident, which happened at the Best One shop in Forth Avenue, around 3.20pm on Saturday.
The man, who was 5ft 10in and medium-built, and was wearing a grey hooded top with white drawstrings, stonewash blue jeans and light-coloured training shoes, was last seen running towards Strathkinnes Road.
Detective Inspector Scott Davidson said: “This was a horrific attempt to rob this shop and while the shopkeeper was not injured, the consequences could have been much more serious.”
