An LGBTI+ Elders Social Dance Club founded in Australia to come to Perth for the first time.
The series of dance clubs was set up to provide older members of the LGBT+ community an opportunity to meet others.
They are run by the National Theatre of Scotland throughout the year in the lead up to the Coming Back Out Ball, a night of celebration for those who have taken part in the LGBTI+ Elders Social Dance Clubs.
The project came to Scotland for the first time in May, with clubs launching in Glasgow and Inverness and will arrive in the Fair City as part of its expansion.
A spokesperson for the National Theatre of Scotland said: “The project originated and has been pioneered in Australia by arts company All The Queens Men as a way to celebrate a generation discriminated against for years and who, according to new findings, fear having to ‘return to the closet’ as they get older.
“This is the first time that this community committed project has been created and shared outside of Australia.”
Perthshire groups have welcomed the dance club coming to the area for the first time with Perthshire Pride, which welcomed Sir Ian McKellen to Perth in August as part of its first Pride Parade, describing them as “fantastic”.
The LGBTI+ Elder Social Dance Club will come to Perth on January 18 and will run from 2 until 4pm at Perth Theatre.
