A Hungarian waiter drove the wrong way down a one-way street and smashed into an oncoming motorist on only his second time behind the wheel in the UK.
Dino Brcic smashed into the other vehicle with such force that it spun through 45 degrees and was pushed back several metres.
After causing the crash the 25-year-old, who holds a Hungarian licence, drove off.
On Thursday at Perth Sheriff Court he pled guilty to dangerous driving and was banned from the roads.
Depute fiscal Matthew Kerr told the court: “It is a short link road subject to a 30mph speed restriction. At the bottom of the road there is a no entry clearly marked with thick white lines on the road, to no entry signs and ‘no entry’ written in large letters across the carriageway.
“There were a number of tourists, pedestrians and vehicles on the road. At 8.20pm the driver of the other vehicle was travelling south down the one-way street.
“While almost at a standstill as she approached the junction she heard another vehicle approach at speed. That vehicle entered the no entry at the bottom of the road and collided with the front of her car.
“The force of the collision forced the car to turn 45 degrees and forced it four or five metres back up the road.
“Police and an ambulance were called and police noted a black line from the bottom of the road indicating a significant loss of traction and excessive speed as being factors in the crash.
“The accused left the locus prior to police arrival and both cars are potential write-offs.”
Solicitor Billy Somerville, defending, said: “He’s been in this country for around 14 months and this was only the second time he had ventured to drive in this country.
“He was confused and not at all familiar with the area.”
Sheriff Keith O’Mahoney banned Brcic from the roads for 19 months and ordered him to resit the estended driving test before he regains his licence. He also fined him £720.
Brcic, of Bonnethill Road, Pitlochry, admitted driving dangerously on Rie-Achan Road, Pitlochry on June 16 last year by driving at excessive speed, failing to observe a no entry sign, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and collide with another vehicle.
He further admitted failing to stop after an accident.
