A Celtic supporter has been banned from the club’s Scottish Cup quarter-final after being charged with trying to punch a police inspector.
Aaron Dooley, 19, appeared in the dock at Perth Sheriff Court yesterday to face a charge of police assault at McDiarmid Park in Perth.
Dooley denied attacking Police Inspector Colin Echevarria by trying to punch him during last month’s St Johnstone v Celtic league match.
Dooley, Ardencraig Road, Glasgow, is alleged to have assaulted the officer during the match – which Celtic won 3-0 – on January 29.
Fiscal depute Matthew Kerr asked for a special bail condition banning Dooley from all football matches before his trial on June 15.
However, defence solicitor David Holmes said the public interest could be satisfied by only banning Dooley from matches at McDiarmid Park.
Sheriff Keith O’Mahoney agreed and limited the bail ban to games at the Perth stadium, but that will include the upcoming cup match between the teams on March 1.
