A Perthshire kennel has celebrated its 30th anniversary by rehoming its 8,000th dog.
Forteviot-based Perthshire Abandoned Dogs Society (PADS) rehomed 14-month-old Collie-cross Lurcher Mylo to mark its landmark year.
Adopted by the McArthur family from Coupar Angus, Mylo was the first dog rehomed by PADS in 2020.
The family is “delighted” its new dog made history for the charity.
Mary McArthur said: “We are so lucky to have found him.
“We had to say goodbye to our old dog Logan last year and the house was empty without him.
“We did without a dog for six months and could stand it no longer. Off we went to PADS a few days after New Year and found Mylo. We are thrilled he is number 8,000.”
PADS kennels manager Louise Perrett has worked with the charity for 27 years and has been praised for her “hard work and dedication” in rehoming dogs in Perthshire.
She spoke of the importance of potential dogs owners doing their research before making the decision to adopt a new pet.
She said: “Make sure any puppy comes from a registered breeder or you may end up with an animal with serious health problems.
“There are endless horror stories about puppy farms so be sure of the origin of your new pet.
“If people followed some of these guidelines, fewer dogs would come to animal shelters like PADS.”
She added: “Remember that there are many dogs needing new homes and the wee scruffy homeless dog can often be the best, most loyal friend you can have.”
The kennels remain filled with unwanted dogs, including strays.
During its 30 years in operation, PADS has gratefully received donations such as money, beds, blankets, toys and food from the public to help the dogs it supports.
Chairwoman of PADS Alison Kennedy said: “We are so grateful to everyone who had been good to us over all these years.
“Without them we could not have helped the 8,000 to find new lives. Our thanks also go to the folk who have adopted PADS dogs. You are all very special.”
