Indie rockers The Charlatans will headline Perth’s Party at the Park this summer.
The line-up for the new major music festival can be exclusively revealed by The Courier today.
Revellers will also see Embrace, Lighting Seeds, Fun Lovin’ Criminals Toploader and Dundee’s rising star Be Charlotte take to the Fair City stage this summer.
The two-day festival will take place on the South Inch over the weekend of June 28 and 29, with thousands of music lovers ready to descend on the city centre location.
Crowds will be entertained by more than 50 acts with Scouting for Girls, Gun, Hot Dub Time Machine and Skerryvore also lined up for the inaugural gigs.
The organisers behind the new festival are the same team who run the successful Party at the Palace event in Linlithgow, headlined by Welsh rockers Manic Street Preachers.
The team have attracted Scottish stars The Proclaimers, Texas and Deacon Blue to the West Lothian town in recent years.
Organisers believe Perth’s central location in Scotland and the South Inch’s close proximity to the railway station will draw large crowds to the music extravaganza.
Peter Ferguson, Party at the Park director, said: “We had been looking at sites across the country and Perth just offered so much in terms of location and accessibility as well as a very experienced team at Perth and Kinross Council to help pull it together.
“Our event in Linlithgow has a fantastic reputation of a safe, family friendly festival that is just the right size.
“We limit our ticket sales purposefully to around 7,000 per day as it is not too big and not too small. We hope to replicate the success of our Linlithgow event in Perth and hope to establish them both as firm favourites in the summer events calendar.”
The new music festival comes four years after T in the Park shutdown after spending 19 years as Scotland’s premier music festival between Strathallan and Balado in Perth and Kinross.
Perth and Kinross Council welcomed the newest addition to the region’s music scene.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: “Party at the Park will further develop the rich and diverse programme of music-themed events that already take place in Perth and Kinross.
“Our close engagement with the organisers will continue in the weeks and months ahead as part of our regulatory and licensing responsibilities for major events locally.”
