The historic Perform in Perth festival has been cancelled mid-way through “for the safety of the community”.
The fortnight-long event, now in its 96th year, began last week with youngsters from schools across Tayside competing in a series of music classes.
Organisers issued a statement on Monday ahead of the start of week two. The competition was due to relaunch with choir, ceilidh and orchestra competitions at Perth Concert Hall.
A spokeswoman said: “After a very successful first week, we have decided, on medical advice, not to go ahead with the second week’s competitions, due to the risks to the general public of performers from a wide area and from a large number of schools coming together and increasing the likelihood of spreading Covid-19 further in the community.
“We know how much work our performers have put into preparing for the festival and also the efforts of all our volunteers and Young Ambassadors.”
