A St Johnstone Player is auctioning off a shirt in aid of two Perthshire charities hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

Midfielder Liam Craig hopes to score some cash for CHAS and Perth and Kinross Foodbank.

The jersey is from the 2015/16 season and has been signed by the first-team-squad from that campaign.

In the spirit of social distancing, bids for the shirt must be made by email.

In 2015/16, Saints finished fourth in the top-flight, securing European football and went unbeaten in post-split fixtures that year including a 2-1 victory over champions Celtic and a 3-0 win at home to runners-up Aberdeen.

In addition to the auction, Liam has agreed to donate £200 on top of whatever the jersey goes for and the club has also pledged to match Liam’s generous offer.

Liam said: “This is obviously a very tough time for everybody but in particular for charities who are working tirelessly to help people in their time of need.

“I thought this would be a way to give something back and to help out during this period of uncertainty and I’m delighted that the club has committed to matching my donation too.”

St Johnstone F.C’s media and communications officer, Gary Henderson added: “Charities such as Perth and Kinross Foodbank and CHAS will be working under immense pressure in the coming weeks and months during this ongoing pandemic.

“Liam has shown fantastic generosity in auctioning off a jersey which means a lot to him, while also pledging £200 in order to do his bit to help. The club will be matching his donation to both of these extremely worth causes.

“If any of our supporters can help either of these charities in any way, we’d encourage them to do so.”

The auction will close at 5pm on Friday and bids can be made by emailing GaryHenderson@perthsaints.co.uk.

The highest bidder by 5pm on Friday will win the signed jersey.
