Two well-used Perth soup kitchens have moved to delivering groceries only.
The food distribution service, run by volunteers from Perth Gospel Hall, usually hands out provisions at Thimblerow car park in the city centre and Dalreoch Place in the Letham area.
Volunteers have distributed more than 2,300 bags of shopping to 360 people in the city centre since October 2017 and 950 bags to 150 individuals in Letham since October 2018.
Organisers have taken the decision to wrap up their trailer for safety reasons, following the advice of the Scottish and UK governments. However, the Christian group say anyone left struggling can contact the team and have groceries brought to their door.
Coordinator Gareth Edwards said: “In recent weeks we’ve made lots of changes to keep our soup kitchens on Mondays and Wednesdays running.
“However, in light of the Prime Minister’s announcement about an hour later which we fully support, we will no longer be able to continue this. Sadly both of our soup kitchens are now cancelled for the foreseeable future.
“In the meantime, if anyone in our local community is struggling, whether you normally come to the soup kitchens or not, please get in touch and we will arrange to leave a bag of the usual groceries at your door.”
