A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car on a Perthshire road.
The crash happened on the A94, just north of Balbeggie, on Sunday evening.
Emergency services, including an ambulance crew, were scrambled to the scene just after 9pm.
The road was closed through the night while officers tried to determine how the tragedy happened.
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed an investigation was under way and a report on the man’s sudden death would be passed to the procurator fiscal’s office in Perth.
The spokesman said: “Road policing officers in Perth and Kinross were called to the A94, just north of Balbeggie, at around 9.10pm on Sunday, following a crash which involved a male pedestrian and a Volkswagen Tiguan.
“The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and the road was closed for eight hours to allow for a crash investigation to take place.”
He said: “Enquiries remain ongoing and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
Details of the victim, including his age, have yet to be released.
The collision happened near the Orchard Court Care Home. No one at the facility was available to speak about the accident, with one employee saying staff were unaware of what had happened.
A passer-by said: “The road was closed off just at Balbeggie. I could see the flashing lights a wee bit further off.
“At first I thought it was a roadblock for coronavirus, but then I saw an ambulance and I feared the worst.”
Traffic was redirected through the surrounding countryside. The road – usually a busy commuter thoroughfare – was reopened just after 8am.
The A94 is not known as an accident hotspot, although emergency services were called to a one-vehicle smash in the same area in January. They arrived to find a car overturned in a ditch.
Last year, a two vehicle smash forced the closure of the A94 between Scone and Balbeggie.
