A Perthshire man has walked a 5k while playing the bagpipes to raise money for NHS Charities Together.
Stuart Peters of Blairgowrie rose to the challenge after he was nominated on social media to undertake the Run for Heroes 5k and a separate musical challenge in which he would play the bagpipes.
Stuart decided to merge the two to create a unique fundraiser.
He walked a 5k loop around Blairgowrie, with his wife Jenni and children Eve, 7, Innes 5, and Andrew, 1, following behind with water.
Stuart said: “My best friend, Stephen, and my sister in-law, Lynne are nurses at Ninewells.
“I have countless more relatives, close friends and acquaintances who are working for the NHS in an array of different jobs.
“I just want to do my bit, no matter how small, to help them have the PPE, resources and support they need during this period.
“I wanted to do a little bit for the front liners in our wonderful NHS.”
The 34 year old, originally from Monifieth, has a strong musical background, with piping being a part of his life for more than 20 years.
He said: “I have been playing for about 23 years.
“I completed my degree, with honours, in Scottish Music (Piping) at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama – now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland – in 2007.
“I have played for the grade 1 pipe band Dowco Triumph Street from Vancouver, Canada and have performed at the Avenche Tattoo in Switzerland and Tartan Day in New York.”
Stuart has also competed in “countless competitions” both in pipe bands and solo.
He currently plays for the grade 4 pipe band Coupar Angus, in which his close friend, Callum Douglas, is pipe major.
Stuart initially hoped to raise £50 through his fundraiser but smashed his target, with nearly £1000 raised by the end of the weekend.
Further donations can be made to Stuart’s fundraiser through his JustGiving page.
