Young people from Perth and Kinross have been given the opportunity to take part in an international video project to document their experiences of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Coronavirus Time Capsule was created by London-based theatre organisation Company Three to provide youngsters the chance to receive support and a platform to be creative.
Weekly videos – created by groups from 16 countries worldwide – are subsequently uploaded onto the Company Three website.
Young people involved in groups such as Perth Youth Theatre and Perth Youth Dance Company will join other teenagers from countries including Kenya, Brazil, Australia, Croatia and the United States in creating videos each week that highlight their lockdown experiences.
Horsecross Join In member, 17-year-old Bethan Macdonald spoke of her reasons for getting involved in the project.
She said: “I wanted to take part in this project because it provided me with a chance to document what it was like to be a teenager living through a global pandemic so that I, and future generations, can look back on it.
“It is also a chance to be involved in a creative project and create something meaningful and worthwhile during this once in a lifetime experience.”
Perthshire teen, 14-year-old Millie McIntyre added: “I got involved with the time capsule project because I thought it was really cool to actually do one, also to still be able to continue my acting work with my friends.”
The Perth and Kinross participants are being supported by Horsecross Arts in creating their videos. The organisation aims to use the project to help tackle isolation and anxiety among young people in the area.
The videos provide an insight into different aspects of young people’s lives during the lockdown.
Topics explored include the impact of the pandemic on home life, school, exercise, and friendships.
By the end of the lockdown, participants will have created a cumulative time capsule for anyone to watch.
Artistic director for Perth Theatre, Lu Kemp said: “At this time where we are personally able to travel no further than a couple of kilometres from our own homes, our Creative Learning team have been stretching their arms across the globe, through the brilliance of Company Three’s Capsule.”
Videos made by Perthshire young people can be viewed on the Horsecross Creative Learning Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages.
