The annual VE Day commemorations are always an occasion to remember for Bankfoot man Victor Hawkins, who was born on the day German forces surrendered.
Originally from Auchterarder, Victor was born on May 4 1945, the day German forces occupying Denmark, the Netherlands and troops stationed in northwestern Germany surrendered.
The first ever VE Day came four days later and his parents George and Cecilia decided it would be a fitting tribute to the soldiers who gave their lives in the Second World War to name their son Victor.
The retired architectural ironmongery salesman, a dad of two and grandfather of two, celebrated his birthday by receiving a phone call from St Johnstone hero Roddy Grant.
