A father who broke Covid-19 lockdown rules and a court order to hurl death threats at his former partner has been told to attend a domestic abuse course.
Anthony Smith, who hit the headlines when he confronted police in Perth city centre at the start of lockdown, was placed on a community payback order for 30 months.
Smith was freed from custody after Sheriff George Way said: “Prison isn’t going to do anything except keep him away from domestic incidents for a relatively short period.”
He admitted breaking bail conditions and strict Covid-19 lockdown rules to go to his former partner’s home and leave her in a state of fear and alarm.
The incident happened shortly after footage emerged of a police officer shouting “go home, you’re killing people” at Smith on Perth High Street as the accused bragged that he had coronavirus. It is understood Smith did not test positive for Covid-19.
Instead of staying at home, Smith stormed round to ex-partner Lisa Anderson’s home and banged the windows shouting: “You’re dead!”
The 37-year-old from St John’s Place, Perth, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on Tweedsmuir Road, Perth, on March 28.
He admitted aggressively shouting and swearing, striking a window and threatening to damage property, and making threats towards his ex-partner.
He was subject to three bail orders at the time, including a special bail condition to stay away from Ms Anderson, which he broke by entering Tweedsmuir Road on March 28.
Smith also has assault and drug convictions as well as breaches of court orders. He was released from his latest prison sentence in the past few weeks.
In the past month he has appeared in the dock at Perth Sheriff Court in connection with the theft of charity cash from an ex-serviceman’s club.
He and co-accused Christopher Anderson, from Perth, were charged with taking a charity tin from the ex-service social club in the city.
Anderson admitted stealing the money, while Smith had the charge against him dropped by the Crown as part of a pre-trial plea bargain.
