A McDonald’s worker who started stealing cash from the burger chain shortly after starting to work for them has been fined and ordered to pay back what she stole.
Tracey Ann Barnett, 42, began regularly helping herself to money from the till at one of the Perth branches of the fast-food restaurant.
However, she was caught when an investigation was launched after the till was found to be short at the end of the day on a number of occasions.
The company’s investigators checked internal CCTV footage and Barnett could be seen pocketing notes and coins. She embezzled a total of £289.15.
Barnett, of Wallace Crescent, Perth, pled guilty by letter at Dundee Sheriff Court and was fined £500 and ordered to pay back the money she had taken.
She admitted between June 1 and August 2 2019 she embezzled money from the Dunkeld Road branch of McDonald’s where she was employed.
The court was told Barnett had only been working in the restaurant for four months when the matter came to light.
She resigned after being called in to a meeting by management.
Sheriff Derek Reekie said: “She is in a position to pay a significant financial penalty and in these circumstances that is the appropriate disposal.”
