A glamorous drag star will fly the flag for Perthshire at an international Pride event featuring First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and US presidential hopeful Joe Biden.
Perth queen Scarlet Skylar Rae will join renowned artists and speakers at Saturday’s online extravaganza.
Global Pride 2020 will commemorate the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, regarded as a ground-breaking chapter in LGBTQ history.
The 24-hour celebration will steam content from Pride organisations across the globe, as well as civil society groups, politicians and world leaders.
Among the speakers will be Stephen Fry, US singer Adam Lambert, Spice Girl Mel C and Grease star Olivia Newton-John.
Scarlet, who will be representing Perthshire Pride, will follow Nicola Sturgeon’s speech with an acoustic performance of her song Pride Comes After The Fall, accompanied by piano player Le Ben.
“I am buzzing to be representing Perthshire Pride on the global stage and have this opportunity to perform alongside so many incredible people,” she said.
Her star has been on the ascent over the last 12 months, with a recent main stage performance at West Australian Pride.
She was also crowned Drag Queen Dean of Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, as part of Grampian Pride, and headlined Hebridean Pride in Stornaway.
Scarlet is a board member of Perthshire Pride, which famously secured a guest appearance by Sir Ian McKellen at last year’s city centre show.
She said she is thrilled to get the chance to perform her song for an international audience.
“I’d have to say a massive thank you to the very talented Le Ben who’s lovely piano performance really helped make my song the best it could be.
“I wrote this song when I first came out to my family and it’s about feeling accepted after feeling incredibly anxious. It’s so fab to get a chance to share my wee song with the world.
“It’s true that love makes the world go around and what Global Pride have done is amazing in bringing the community together.”
Global Pride will commence at 6am on Saturday, with the UK section, hosted by entertainer Todrick Hall, starting at 6.10pm.
