The Scottish Game Fair has been cancelled at Scone Palace for 2020 after organisers originally pushed the July date back to October.
The Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust, which organises the event, announced on Thursday that they have been forced to call off the Game Fair over “lack of clarity” about coronavirus restrictions.
The annual celebration for countryside enthusiasts normally attracts thousands of visitors to Perthshire and Scone Palace each year.
Hugo Straker, Chairman of the GWCT Scottish Game Fair, said: “Like many in the Scottish events industry we have been watching the Covid-19 situation closely over the last four months as we worked hard towards our new dates, and we had genuinely hoped the easing of restrictions would enable us to proceed.
“However, the understandable lack of clarity on the easing of restrictions on large events means it is simply too risky for us to continue with our plans.
“While we completely appreciate the reasons why the Scottish Government is not in a position to give us more clarity at this stage, it goes without saying that this difficult decision will have a detrimental impact on the events industry in Scotland, an industry already under tremendous financial strain.”
Depute First Minister John Swinney commended the Game Fair for acting in a “swift and responsible manner” and hoped to welcome the event back to Perthshire next year.
