Crisis-hit department store McEwens of Perth has entered its final days.
All unsold stock from the company’s other shops, stores and warehouses has now been moved to the main St John Street branch.
A spokesman for administrators KPMG said the store will remain open until all or most of the goods are sold. A closure date has yet to be confirmed.
Items were this week transferred from the homeware department in a separate building on Watergate, which is now closed.
The last days sale began at the end of March, just 24 hours after McEwens’ owners announced the firm had been placed in administration.
Huge crowds gathered for the first day of the sale, although staff shortages and fire regulations meant that the number of customers entering the store had to be strictly controlled.
KMPG is considering its next move and is likely to make an announcement on the sale of the buildings in the coming days.
The shop has been part of Perth for more than 150 years.
A total of 64 staff – including 13 from smaller branches in Oban and Ballater – were made redundant, while 46 were kept on to assist with the closing down sale.
In recent years, McEwens struggled to turn a profit, with its last set of accounts showing a pre-tax loss of just over £56,000 for the year to January 31, 2015. In November last year, managing director John Bullough blamed the slump on the reliance of under-performing concessionary outlets within the Perth store.
