An ambitious bid to establish a water taxi scheme along the River Tay has taken another step forward.
Perth and Kinross Council has lodged an application with Scottish Ministers to create a series of pontoons.
The local authority has earmarked land at river banks near the Fergusson Gallery, Willowgate and at Elcho Castle.
The council has secured almost £600,000 from the Coastal Communities Fund and it was recently granted a further £100,000 for the second phase.
It is hoped that the riverside berths will increase visitors to the city.
Initially, they will be mainly used by small, private and commercial boats but the council wants to create a taxi service along the river to Dundee and the new V&A.
The council’s environment director, Barbara Renton, said the service could bring “significant benefits” to the area.
She stated in a recent report: “It is expected that the pontoons will be used by local boat operators and recreational users, as a result of ongoing promotion and growth of the visitor market.”
All three pontoons already have planning permission.
