McEwens boss John Bullough has appealed for “critical action” to save Perth city centre.
The troubled department store’s managing director has broken his silence to demand a series of changes to regenerate the economy.
Speaking publicly for the first time since McEwens went into administration, Mr Bullough said charities should be discouraged from setting up shop in the city centre and said businesses were being hammered by “disproportionate” rates.
He also confirmed that he intends to stand down as chairman of the Perth City Development Board, a group which was set up to lead plans for future growth and investment over the next 20 years.
