A former Kinross High School pupil, William Wilson, has been made a professor.
Prof Wilson, 47, is a director of SAHFOS (Sir Alister Hardy Foundation for Ocean Science) in Plymouth.
The charity is responsible for the longest running, most geographically extensive, marine biological survey in the world. Prof Wilson is a marine virologist and after Kinross High went to Bangor University in North Wales and Warwick University.
He worked in various science departments, then went to America to work for seven years.
He came back to Plymouth University, and on to SAHFOS. Living in Devon, he is married with two children.
