Following representation from local residents, a 20mph speed limit and three tonne weight limit has been introduced in Glover Street in Perth between Craigie Cross and Needless Road.
The four local councillors, Bob Band, Alistair Munro, Alexander Stewart and Willie Wilson, got together with road safety staff from the council and residents to hammer out a set of proposals to improve road safety in the area.
Commenting on the process, Councillor Wilson said: “We had some real consultation and good vigorous discussion with local residents before we drew up the proposals.
“The work is not over yet, we need to make sure that motorists are aware of the restrictions and comply with them in future.”
Councillor Munro said: “It’s good news to have the 20mph speed limit introduced into this section of road.
“Early evidence is that a substantial number of motorists are complying with the new restriction but there are those, however, who are still speeding on this section or road and we would appeal to them to make sure they drive carefully and within the speed limit on the section of road between Craigie Cross and Needless Road.”
The weight limit will mean local residents should no longer be disturbed by larger vehicles, particularly during the night, but the situation will continue to be monitored by the police and councillors.
