Police are hunting “vile” thieves who smashed their way into a Perthshire tennis club and raided the tuck shop – before “fouling” the floor.
As well as grabbing handfuls of sweets, they made off with petty cash, tennis rackets and balls. Some equipment was later recovered by investigators.
The incident happened sometime between 9.15pm on Monday, June 20, and 5pm on Tuesday, June 21, at the Luncarty Tennis Club in Perth.
A statement on the club’s Facebook page read: “Sadly our clubhouse was broken into. Not only did they steal our petty cash, steal our tuck shop sweets and steal tombola prizes but they literally fouled on the floor of the clubhouse.
“Absolutely disgusting, vile and feels very personal to the club. The police are now involved. Hopefully some proof can come from their dirt.”
The club’s spokeswoman added that forensic teams had managed to obtain evidence from the mess left behind. “We are confident these horrors will be caught,” she said. “We have a fabulous community who have shown great support and feeding in potential evidence, which is wonderful. We have cleaned the mess and we are marching ahead as normal.”
The club recently revealed it was in desperate need of new adult helpers and had hoped for a boost from Andy Murray’s popularity to help them thrive.
Police Scotland has urged anyone with information to call 101 or freephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
