Pitlochry Opticians have denied that a series of explicit photos that appeared under Google searches for their business are linked to them.
Social media users pointed out the X-rated images which appeared under a Google image search for the opticians.
The pictures appeared to have been removed by Monday afternoon after a spokesperson for Pitlochry Opticians denied the person pictured was associated with the business.
Some suggested the intimate snaps could have been posted online as a result of a leak, adding that the person photographed could have no connection to Pitlochry.
Police Scotland said enquiries were ongoing following a report of offensive online content reported to them on Sunday.
A Pitlochry Opticians spokesperson said they had received “many messages of concern” from people overnight.
They added: “Unfortunately our business has been one of many in the area that has received a series of intimate images posted to our Google business profile.
“This woman is not in association with Pitlochry Opticians and may be a victim of an unwanted personal photo leak.
“We will be removing any further comments and hope that no other businesses have been affected.
‘Our sympathies go out to the women involved’
“If this was an unwanted leak then our sympathies go out to the women involved.”
A spokesperson told The Courier they were “mortified” to discover the images, and thanked concerned people for getting in touch.
“We have been in touch with both the Police and Google to have these offensive images removed, however, it is taking longer than we had hoped to remove the images completely.
“I am shocked that there does not seem to be a quick standard pathway available to remove unwanted and malicious posts such as these.
“We would however like to thank the many concerned callers that alerted us to the problem.”
It is not known what other businesses in the area were linked to the images.
The Courier was able to view one of the pictures online, but any connection with Pitlochry Opticians appears to have been removed.
One concerned local sent her sympathies to the woman involved.
‘I hope the police find the person responsible’
She said: “I reported every single one of those photographs last night. Whoever did this deserves a custodial sentence. Karma will hopefully find them.
“To the lady in question I sincerely hope you can get past this, you have done nothing wrong, are beautiful and strong.”
Another person added: “If it was a leak I hope the police find the person responsible and the women receives adequate support.”
A third person said: “Sad that this happened hope the woman gets support.”
