Sports fans are gearing up for a weekend of cycling and stunts in rural Perthshire.
The fledgling Coupar Angus Cycling Festival will kick off tomorrow with a talk by record-breaking adventurer Mark Beaumont.
Fresh from his historic solo ride across Africa – where he travelled from Cairo to Cape Town in just 42 days – Mr Beaumont will be at the Red House Hotel, Coupar Angus, to discuss his many adventures.
The festival continues on Saturday at Larghan Park, on the edge of Coupar Angus, with six hours of spectacular displays, games and competitions.
Organisers have promised “something for everyone” with children’s races, a food market and a giant airbag for daredevil cyclists to dive onto.
Obstacle courses and circuits will be set up to give riders the chance to practice and learn new skills.
There will also be a sale of bikes, as well as exhibitions, stalls and a skate jam.
On Sunday, the traditional Big Sunday Cycle will offer 25, 50 and 100km circuits starting from and returning to Coupar Angus, taking in surrounding countryside routes.
An Enduro mountain bike race, also starting and finishing in the town, will be held with five race stages.
A festival spokesman said: “The Coupar Angus Cycling Festival is here to inspire people locally and regionally to become engaged with cycling in the Strathmore area and beyond. Participation will be the key to the success of the Festival.”
The three-day event has been organised by the Coupar Angus Cycling Hub. The town became a hub for cycling in 2013 with a guidebook highlighting 26 cycle routes in and around the town.
