A major search along the banks of the River Tay in Perth has come to an end.
Firecrews were searching the north banks of the river, along with colleagues who were located beside the rail bridge at the southern end of the river.
Seven fire units from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service descended on Tay Street near the Queen’s Bridge around 9.35am on Sunday, with police also in attendance.
The vehicles included a technical rescue unit and a trailer carrying water rescue equipment. In addition, trained search dogs were used in the operation.
Two of the fire engines were located at the south end of Tay Street, near the rail bridge, as emergency personnel scoured for signs of a body in the water.
A man working on a flat opposite the main fire units in Tay Street said he’d heard someone was in the River Tay.
“I’d been told someone had gone into the river, but don’t know if this was this morning or last night,” he said.
“There’s plenty firecrew here so something serious must be happening.”
Firefighters left the scene in Tay Street around 2.15pm but returned around an hour later to continue the search.
The bomb disposal unit were also called to the scene following unconfirmed reports that something had been found, but this was confirmed as being a false alarm.
Meanwhile, Police Scotland confirmed a body was found in the search for missing 71-year-old William Clark from the Muirhall Road area of Perth.
