A Perth city centre hotel was evacuated early on Saturday morning after a dishwasher caught fire sending smoke billowing through the building.
Up to 30 guests were evacuated as emergency services rushed to the New County Hotel on Perth’s County Place just after 9am.
Three fire crews, police and an ambulance attended the blaze, although no guests were hurt as a result of the kitchen fire.
Italian tourist Andrew Tavoni, 43, was staying at the hotel with his family when the fire broke out.
He said: “We were just coming down the stairs for breakfast when we were told that we had to get out of the hotel.
“We didn’t know what had happened but we could smell the smoke. We have heard that there was a fire in the kitchen.
“We just got out as quickly as we could. Luckily nobody has been injured that we know of.”
A passer-by told The Courier: “You could see smoke coming out of the windows of the restaurant. They managed to get the people out pretty quickly. It showed that they have got good evacuation procedures as everybody was made safe really fast.”
A Fire Service spokesperson said: “It was a dishwasher that was on fire. We had three appliances from Perth at the scene. The hotel was evacuated and nobody has been hurt.”
A spokesperson for the New County Hotel stated that they were open for business as normal following the incident.
