Plans unveiled for £33.8m leisure hub in Perthshire — including four-star hotel and museum

Plans for a new £33.8 million leisure hub in Perthshire have been unveiled, with developers seeking permission for the project on the banks of the River Tay.

Morris Leslie Group is asking council planning chiefs for permission to go ahead with the development at West Kinfauns.

If approved the leisure hub will feature a four-star hotel as well as a museum, with hopes that it could welcome up to 80,000 tourists annually.

Lodge-style cabins also form one of the four main components of the site detailed in the planning application to Perth and Kinross Council.

‘Extensive’ consultation on Perthshire leisure hub

It comes after “extensive” community consultation, the developer said, with the submission informed by “exhaustive research”.

They say the development at West Kinfauns will offer connections with Perth city centre, including active travel routes, which will be enhanced through the proposed development.

To help this, part of the site has been identified to host a proposed park and ride, which has planning consent, and the intention is to incorporate this facility into the development.

‘Premium destination’ hopes to attract 80,000 tourists annually

Morris Leslie say the development will deliver a “premium destination” which will draw tourism to the area on a local and national basis, providing a gateway to Perth.

The project also contains proposals for retail space.

A museum on the grounds of the development would focus on the history of transport and vehicles over the last century, particularly the impact on Scotland and the local area.

It is also the intention to put on feature displays which will change twice annually.

Such displays could focus on Grand Prix and racing cars driven by Scots, such as Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart and Dario Franchitti, the story of Stagecoach, or famous Scots on two wheels.

“The £33.8m development provides the perfect opportunity to maximise the potential of the location and draw tourists to the area on a local and national basis.
