Scotland will fall silent on Sunday, November 13, 2022, as Remembrance Day events take place across Angus, Dundee, Fife, Perth and Kinross and beyond.
Proceedings are likely to be bigger and busier than the previous two years, which were affected by Covid restrictions.
Here, we feature some of the large gatherings taking place on Remembrance Day across Tayside and Fife.
Remembrance Day events in Dundee
Lord Provost Bill Campbell will join the people of Dundee, along with dignitaries, representatives of the armed forces, veterans and cadets to remember those who fell.
Sunday’s events include:
From 10.40am onwards there is a parade from the High School down Reform Street.
At 11am a two-minute silence takes place at the Garden of Remembrance, St Mary’s Church Nethergate.
Wreath laying will take place here, then a service will follow at St Mary’s.
At 11am there is also a service at the Black Watch Memorial, Powrie Brae. Depute Lord Provost Kevin Cordell will attend the event.
At around 12.15pm, the Lord Provost and party make their way to The Law War Memorial for a wreath laying service.
At 2:30pm there will be a submarine memorial event at City Quay.
Proceedings conclude at 3pm with an annual remembrance day service at Frigate Unicorn.
Lord Provost Bill Campbell said: “The events in the city are always moving, emotional and it is an honour to take part in them on behalf of the city.
“The people of Dundee will take time to reflect on the huge sacrifices of those before us, and those currently serving, as we come together to pay our respects.”
A two-minute silence will also be observed on Friday, November 11 at 11am in City Square, when Armistice Day will be marked with a service to which the public are invited to attend.
Elsewhere, High School of Dundee will hold its annual Armistice parade on Friday.
Remembrance Day events in Fife
One of the largest events in Fife, on Sunday, takes place in Kirkcaldy.
At 10.20am the parade will form at Kirkcaldy Townhouse, beginning their march to the war memorial at 10.30am.
The route takes in Wemyssfield and through the Memorial Gardens.
At 11am a remembrance service and wreath laying ceremony takes place at the war memorial. Deputy Lord Lieutenant Jim Kinloch will lay a wreath.
Afterwards there will be a light buffet and refreshments at Adam Smith Theatre.
In Cupar, a parade leaves Fluther’s car park at 10.15am for the war memorial, where a remembrance service and wreath laying ceremony takes place at 10.45am.
A curry lunch takes places at local barracks at 11.30am.
In Glenrothes, a parade leaves the Golden Acorn pub at 10.15am for the memorial garden on Church Street. Here there will be a wreath laying ceremony ahead of a march to the church for service.
The parade will meet at the CISWO Club for refreshments afterwards.
In St Andrew’s a parade will be seated at the Parish Church of the Holy Trinity from 10.30am.
At 10.40am the service of remembrance begins, followed by a two-minute silence and wreath laying ceremony at the church war memorial at 11am.
The parade will then march to the town war memorial led by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Pipes and Drums.
At noon a wreath laying ceremony takes place at the town war memorial.
Elsewhere, Provost Jim Leishman will lay a wreath in Dunfermline in the morning and Cowdenbeath in the afternoon.
Lord Lieutenant Robert Balfour will lay one in Inverkeithing.
In Tayport a parade heads from Dougal Street at 10.30am to the parish church.
At 11.30am there will be soup and sandwiches at the Cobbies Inn.
Remembrance Day events in Perth and Kinross
The annual services of remembrance will take place across Perth and Kinross on Sunday November 13 including at St John’s Kirk, Perth at 10.45am.
There will be no civic parades this year due to the ongoing construction works near the City Hall.
At the conclusion of the service, the military parade will depart and there will be a march past of military personnel along Tay Street, and the salute will be taken at the Viewpoint on Tay Street/High Street.
Prior to the remembrance service, the Lord-Lieutenant, Provost and 7 SCOTS will lay wreaths at the 51st Highland Memorial on the North Inch.
The Association of Perth Veterans will hold its service of remembrance event at the Tri-Service Memorial, St John Street, Perth on Friday 11 November at 11.00am
Depute Provost Andrew Parrott will lay a wreath on behalf of the council.
In Kinross, a service will take place in the parish church from 10am to 10.35am on Sunday.
The community council parade will then begin from 10.45am.
Up to 100 participants will line the streets from Kinross Parish Church, along Station Road and to the war memorial on the High Street.
Here there we will be a two-minute silence followed by a few words. The wreath will then be laid and the parade will march off.
In Auchterarder, the Churches Together Remembrance Day Parade begins at 11.10am.
Around 50 people will march from the war memorial on the High Street to the parish church at 24 High Street.
Up to 150 people are expected to participate in the parade by the Blairgowrie, Rattray & District Branch Legion Scotland club.
The route begins at Brown Street, before turning left on High Street, right on Allan Street, left on Wellmeadow, right on Gas Brae, and right to enter the bottom gate to war memorial.
The return route goes on one-way roads, going up on the right hand side of Wellmeadow, left on Leslie Street, right on Reform Street, right on High Street and left on Brown Street.
The Comrie Parish Church remembrance parade takes place from 10.40am.
The route will begin at the church and take in Burrell Street, Dundag Street, Bridge Street and Dalginross before finishing at the war memorial.
Around 50 people are expected to partake.
The Crieff Legion Branch remembrance parade is expected to include up to 160 participants.
It begins at 11.45am, travelling from the Crieff Royal British Legion Scotland Hall to the war memorial in Crieff town centre.
The route is along the A85, taking in East High Street, James Square, West High Street and Comrie Street.
In Pitlochry, the Baptist church and Blair Atholl Pipe Band will begin their parade at 10.50am. Around 55 people are expected to participate.
They will congregate on West Moulin Road outside the Atholl Leisure Centre before being led towards the war memorial on Atholl Road.
The pipe band will turn left and come to a halt on Bonnethill Road, while the parade continues to the war memorial on Atholl Road.
Remembrance Day events in Angus
In Arbroath, the parade will form up at the Royal British Legion clubrooms in Albert Street at 1.30pm.
Five minutes later it will begin marching to the Cenotaph, where they will be wreath laying and commemoration at 1.35pm.
At 2.15pm the parade matches back to clubrooms, where there will be refreshments available at 2.30pm.
In Brechin, the parade will gather at Bank Street at 10.25am.
At 10.30am it marches to Brechin Cathedral for a service of remembrance.
At 11.30am the parade will form up in St Ninians Square after the service and march to the war memorial in the public park for a wreath laying ceremony.
At noon the parade moves back to Brechin Legion for a light lunch.
In Carnoustie, there will be a parade opposite the Royal British Legion at 12.15pm.
They will march to the war memorial, where a service takes place at 12.30pm.
On the previous day, Saturday November 12, there will be the annual sunset ceremony at 6pm at the memorial that sits between Carnoustie Golf Hotel and the Links House HQ of Carnoustie Golf Links.
In Edzell, a wreath laying service takes place at the war memorial at 12.30pm.
In Forfar, a service at East & Old Parish Church commences at 10.45am. Elected members, MPs and MSPs are expected to be present.
After the service a parade will head to the Cross, where there will be a wreath laying ceremony at 12.30pm.
There will then be a march to the Royal British Legion for refreshments.
Finally, a short wreath laying ceremony takes place at Balmashanner at 2pm.
In Glamis, there will be a gathering at the war memorial at 10.40am, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at 11am.
In Kirriemuir, people will gather at the war memorial on Kirriemuir Hill at 12.30pm. A short service and wreath laying takes place at 12.45pm.
A church service takes place in Newtyle at 10am, followed by wreath laying at 10.45am.
In Letham, a church service begins at 10am, followed a by a procession to the war memorial at 10.40am and wreath laying at 11am.
In Montrose, a march begins outside the Royal British Legion in Wellington Street at 10.25am.
It will head to Old and St Andrews Church, where a service begins at 10.45am.
At noon, wreath laying takes place at the war memorial.
At 12.30pm, the parade will be reformed and returned to the Royal British Legion for soup and sandwiches.
In Monifieth, there will be an assembly at the war memorial at 10.45am. Wreath laying takes place at 11am.
