Police were left scratching their heads after attending the scene of a reported crash and finding no trace of the stricken vehicle.
Officers were called to junction 10 of the M90, near Perth, after receiving a call that a car had left the road shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday.
However on arrival they could find no evidence of an accident and the crash barriers were intact.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We did get a vehicle leaving the road on the M90 near Junction 10.
“Officers conducted a search of the area but did not find anything. There was no debris on the road and the crash barriers were undamaged.
“Whether someone left the road and was able to get themselves back on, we don’t know.”
