A Perthshire businessman has denied defrauding HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) of almost £400,000.
Perth Sheriff Court heard there are “thousands of documents” to analyse in connection with the legal case that faces 47-year-old Stuart Newing-Davis.
Experienced depute fiscal John Malpass has been drafted in to examine the charges for the Crown.
Newing-Davis, of Tannoch House, Dunkeld Road, Bankfoot, denies a charge that on March 3, 2010, at his home address he was knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of VAT amounting to £20,190.98, in that while acting as a director of Transpeople.co.uk and Ptarmigan Transport Solutions Ltd he submitted to HMRC a VAT receipt on January 31, 2010, supported by false documents.
He also denied several similar charges stating that he was knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of VAT amounting to £31,500 on June 2, 2010, and of £45,991.52 on September 7, 2010.
Newing-Davis pleaded not guilty to similar charges of defrauding HMRC of £38,496.83 on June 7, 2011 and of £38,000 on the same date.
He also denied defrauding HMRC of £48,040.16 on July 7, 2011; £47,430.42 on January 24, 2012; £54,880.24 on March 16, 2012 and £62,497.46 on June 15, 2012.
All charges relate to his time as director of Transpeople.co.uk and Ptarmigan Transport Solutions Ltd.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told the legal representatives he wants all paperwork relating to the case kept to a minimum if possible.
Newing-Davis will stand trial on October 10.
