Crowds gathered outside McDiarmid Park on Sunday after new Omicron rules limited the number of fans allowed inside the stadium to watch St Johnstone take on Celtic.
A large group of locked-out Celtic fans were pictured showing their support outside the stadium in Perth during the Scottish Premier League clash.
Police officers could be seen trying to control the crowds, who also let flares off outside the grounds.
Police Scotland confirmed a “small group” had gathered and later dispersed from outside the football ground on Crieff Road, Perth.
A spokeswoman confirmed officers had engaged with those involved. No arrests were made as a result.
New rules introduced by the Scottish Government to curb the rapidly spreading Omicron coronavirus variant limited the number who could attend matches to 500.
Many have criticised the restrictions, with some calling for matches to be suspended until fans can return.
The Dundee Supporters’ Association said they didn’t want to see games like the upcoming Dundee FC vs Dundee United game to go ahead with just 500 fans.
Asked about the rules on crowd sizes last week, national clinical director Jason Leitch said the 500 figure was “judgement”.
“It’s very difficult to choose a number, you can either choose zero, 10,000 or somewhere in between.
“It’s a judgement, it’s of course based on trying to keep the risk as low as you possibly can but the alternative is just to close them down completely,” he said.
Professor Leitch added: “There isn’t a particular public health route that takes you to 500 people.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers on patrol came across a small group gathered outside the football stadium on Crieff Road, Perth on Sunday 26 December.
“Officers engaged with them and they later dispersed.”
