A man in his 40s is dead following a collision on the A9 near Blair Atholl.
The arterial route linking north and south remained was closed for several hours on Thursday following the horrific crash, which occurred at around 7.45am.
It re-opened mid-afternoon.
The collision involved a white Mercedes Sprinter van and a lorry.
A motorist driving on the road, who wished to remain anonymous described it as a “terrible smash”.
The incident led to long tailbacks and a diversion via the B8079 was put in place.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue service confirmed they attended the scene, with units travelling from Perth, Pitlochry, Dunkeld and Kirkmichael.
A police spokesperson said: “Next of kin have now been informed and formal identification will be carried out in due course.
“Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
“Drivers are thanked for their patience in this matter.”
