Police are closing the net on a thief suspected of stealing a rare bottle of malt whisky worth £12,000 from a Perthshire distillery.
It’s been revealed that detectives now have a “positive line of inquiry” regarding their investigations into the seven bottle haul from Tullibardine Distillery in Blackford, which took place between 5pm on Saturday, September 17, and 9.25am on Sunday, September 18.
A total of £14,000 worth of whisky was stolen, including the rare malt, along with two glasses.
The exclusive £12,000 malt was among the seven bottles stolen.
A police spokesperson said a man was seen struggling down the side of the A9 Perth to Dunblane road, heavily weighed down by two bags, around 9.55pm on September 17.
The man has been described as being aged between 25 and 35, of medium build, and was wearing a red top, light-coloured shorts and worker boots.
On Monday, a police spokesperson confirmed that officers now have a “positive line of inquiry” regarding tracking down the thief.
She added that police would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the offence and may have seen or heard anything suspicious.
Tullibardine Distillery is one of the best known in the country. King James IV of Scotland stopped in Blackford in 1488 to purchase beer from the local brewery, which was then granted a Royal Charter from the monarch in 1503.
In 1947, William Delme-Evans began converting the original brewery into the Tullibardine Distillery.
Anyone with information on the whisky haul should phone the police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
