Friends and family of a biker who died in a horrific smash at a Highland Perthshire beauty spot have raised more than £1,000 for his funeral.
John Fraser, a member of the Stirling Motorcycle Club, was killed in a two bike collision on the A85 Lochearnhead — St Fillans, near Loch Earn.
It is understood John became unwell while riding along a twisty section of road with fellow club members.
He fell from his bike and collided with another motorcycle. The other rider was taken to hospital by air ambulance.
John, from Fallin, near Stirling, was an HGV driver and a former pupil of Stirling High School.
Heartbroken friends launched an online appeal to raise money in Jonn’s memory.
The fundraising page was set up by motorcycle club members, who aimed to make £1,000 to help pay for funeral costs.
In less than two days, well-wishers smashed the total, pledging more than £1,400.
And friends have been encouraged to keep the contributions coming.
A club spokesman wrote online that Johno, as he was known, “was a brilliant and loyal friend to us all.
“We as a club are looking for some help from the biker community to help raise money towards his funeral costs. Many bikers in the central Scotland area may have met Johno through the years and we would appreciate anything you could spare.”
Wife Liz wrote on the club’s Facebook page: “The most amazing man I have ever met and there could never be anyone like him. I miss him so much.”
Club member Craig Hutchison said that members were in shock. “He was the type of guy who would never say no to going out on his bike,” he said. “His son, young John, was just starting to get into bikes. His dad was teaching him the basics.
“Johno was one of a kind and he’s going to be missed madly.”
The accident, which happened around lunchtime on Sunday September 18, prompted fresh calls for extra safety measures along the route.
St Fillans community council is considering calls for speed restrictions.
The A85 has become a haven for bikers because of its stunning scenery.
Last month, a 49-year-old from Dundee was killed on the same stretch of road.
And in April, a 24-year-old biker will killed on the A85 at St Fillans.
