A female motorist has died following a head-on collision between a van and a car on the A9 at Luncarty near Perth
The accident occurred on the northbound carriageway around 7.23pm on Thursday.
The A9 was closed in both directions as a result of the collision.
Traffic was diverted through the village following the incident.
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed one person had died in the crash but was unable to provide details of any other injuries.
A statement issued by the Force on Thursday night added: “Police Scotland are attending a serious road traffic collision on the A9 North at Luncarty. near Perth.
“The A9 is currently blocked in both directions and diversions are being put in place.
“Members of the public are asked to be patient and avoid travelling on the A9 , if possible.”
It was the second tragedy on Perthshire’s roads on Thursday as, just a few hours earlier, a two year-old lost her life following an accident in Coupar Angus.
