St Johnstone legend Roddy Grant has been charged with an assault at a Perth pub.
The 55-year-old, who is also a club director and an inductee to the hall of fame, allegedly carried out an attack on another man at the Cherrybank Inn on Glasgow Road on January 29.
Police have confirmed he has now been charged over the incident, and will appear in court at a later date in connection with the claim.
Report sent to prosecutors
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.10pm on Saturday January 29 officers received a report of a man assaulted within premises on Glasgow Road, Perth.
“A 55-year-old man has been charged in connection.”
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service says it has received a report into the case but no court dates have been set.
Grant started playing career in Fife
Grant, who played as a striker, started his career with Cowdenbeath in 1986 before moving to play for St Johnstone between 1989 and 1992.
He went on to play for both Dunfermline and Patrick Thistle before returning to McDiarmid Park side for the second time in 1995.
Grant left St Johnstone in 2000, initially on loan to Ayr United before ending his career with spells at Brechin City and Peterhead.
He made 291 appearances and scored 79 goals for St Johnstone.
Inductee to St Johnstone hall of fame
In 2012 he was appointed an associate director of the club, before being appointed as a full director in August last year.
At the time he said: “I’m delighted with this news. I was very proud to accept the offer from the chairman.
“St Johnstone has been a massive part of my life and I will continue to give my full commitment to help the football club continue to drive forward.”
Grant was also inducted into the St Johnstone hall of fame in 2013.
Both St Johnstone, and bosses at the Cherrybank Inn, have declined to comment.
