One of Scotland’s most accomplished pipers has won the prestigious Glenfiddich Piping Championship for the fifth time.
Roddy MacLeod MBE claimed the 2016 title after competing against some of the world’s most highly acclaimed pipers.
The championship was established in 1974 to bring together the world’s finest players.
All 10 competitors who were invited to take part at the event at Blair Castle in Perthshire had won other piping events during the past year.
Mr MacLeod, from Glasgow, said: “Taking part is always a highlight of the year for whoever is lucky enough to earn their place.
“It’s always an honour to play and compete alongside great talent.”
Mr MacLeod was made an MBE for services to piping in 2003.
Four years ago, he was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Awards Hall of Fame.
The Blair Castle competition features renditions of the ancient and traditional piobaireachd (the great music) and the ceol beag (the little music).
An event spokesman said: “Competitors are invited to compete having won prestigious accolades at other piping events during the last year.
“All competitors are already champions before coming to Blair Atholl, but competing at the Glenfiddich pits champion against champion as each piper competes for piping’s ultimate prize and recognition.”
