The final whistle has blown on an iconic Perth football pub that has been on the transfer list for nearly a year.
The 208 pub, which has become a Mecca for St Johnstone and travelling travelling fans ahead of McDiarmid Park matches, closed its doors on Sunday but remains on the property market.
It’s understood a family illness led to the pub being shut at the weekend, with one regular patron describing it as “an end of an era”.
A spokesperson for Shepherd estate agents in Perth confirmed the 208 had been listed.
“We are marketing the 208 for sale and there has been some interest,” he said.
“We’ve already had two people stating they are interested in taking it over.”
Present licensee Kerri Doris said: “The building has been up for sale since January and it will stay up for sale until we get a buyer.
“There has been interest in the building so hopefully we’ll know what’s happening by next year.”
St Johnstone fan Roddy Jones, 35, of Canal Street, Perth, said the 208 is “always busy” on football match days and added he hoped it will re-open soon.
“It’s a great meeting place for supporters before a home game at McDiarmid Park,” he said.
“A group of us usually have a couple of pints in the 208 prior to going to the game and there is always a good atmosphere.”
Hibs fan Peter Adamson, of Dunning, added: “It’s a shame it’s closed just now.
“You get both sets of fans in there, with the away supporters being given the front of the pub, which is good.
“I hope they get a buyer soon.”
Another Saints fan posted online: “End of an era today. Last chance to have a pint in the 208 before the ‘fitba.’
“Lots of great memories in there over the years. Cheers.”
Michael Quantill posted: “In the 208 for the last time drinking beer.”
