Alyth street “melee” sees 30 neighbours do battle

.
.

A neighbour dispute in Alyth turned into a mass brawl with as many as 30 adults struggling in the street.

Numerous police units were scrambled to the town’s Springbank Road as a number of people were seriously assaulted.

Among those badly injured were husband and wife Steven and Michelle Tainsh who were knocked to the ground on their own doorstep.

Mrs Tainsh sustained the greatest injury.

She was punched and kicked and had to be taken to hospital with cracked ribs, a black eye, injured hand and bruising the length of her body.

It was the couple who appeared in the dock at Perth Sheriff Court after accepting they had instigated the mass disturbance.

The court heard there had been long-standing issues between the couple and a number of neighbours but that matters came to a head in July after an afternoon argument.

After a period of calm, their next door neighbour knocked on their door.

Moments later punches were being thrown and others had joined in.

Depute Fiscal Carol Whyte said Police Scotland had received reports of 20 to 30 adults involved in a “melee”.

Steven Tainsh, 45, and Michelle Tainsh, 44, now of Hatton Place in Rattray, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner, repeatedly shouting and swearing and engaging in a fight.

The couple were fined £500 and £100 respectively by Sheriff Lindsay Foulis who said it was clear neighbours had “taken retribution”.

The court was told two of the couple’s former neighbours were also to appear in court.
