Panning for gold in Perthshire’s burns and rivers has become a well-known draw for tourists, but one local light manufacturer has decided to put a little back in.
In a novel display, Dunkeld’s Christmas Direct answered a customer’s query into whether their kit could truly survive the winter elements by testing their outdoor LED bulbs in a nearby burn.
Once the (high) risk assessment was over regarding the safety implications of running mains electricity into a burn, the team got paddling and attached 30 metre runs of their lights to a top cable before finally laying them out on the river bed.
Following the big switch on, the burn was illuminated with an understated display, the lights gently complementing its tranquil flow.
A representative from the firm said: “To answer your question, Stephen from Kent, we’re delighted to tell you that not only will our outdoor string lights survive the Great British weather, they’ll also survive being chucked in a river.”
