The family of a teenage girl who was found dead in the River Tay after a two-day search have thanked the community and emergency services for their support.
Kathleen Harkin disappeared during a Saturday night out with friends last month. Her family received the worst possible news when she was found eight miles downstream on Monday.
In a message sent to The Courier, they wrote: “The family of the late Kathleen Josephine Harkin would like to thank the people of Perth (especially the community of North Muirton) for the overwhelming kindness shown after their tragic loss.”
The family thanked those who had been involved in the search effort, including police, the mountain rescue service and the RNLI.
They extended a special thanks to police liaison officers who helped them through their grief.
Those involved in arranging Kathleen’s funeral were also thanked, including Monsignor Drysdale, the choir, organist and all at St John the Baptist RC Church, as well as those at Riverside Church of Scotland.
They added: “Also thank you to all who attended Kathleen’s celebration service and to everyone who sent kind letters of support, cards and beautiful floral tributes; thank you also to everyone who gave donations to RNLI, which totalled £642.52.”
Kathleen was on a night out with friends on October 8 when she was last seen near Woody Island, in North Muirton, at 9.30pm.
Her disappearance sparked a massive search effort, involving police, the fire service, Tayside Mountain Rescue, search dogs and a helicopter.
However family and friends received the news they dreaded when the 15-year-old was found near St Madoes.
