Thousands of people converged on the centre of Perth on Saturday for a day of celebration.
The fun got under way with a festival of chocolate in the High Street with numerous attractions scattered around the city centre including musical performances, clowns, reindeer, fairground rides and even an ice rink.
The culmination of the day is the Christmas light switch on in Tay Street followed by a spectacular fireworks display reflected in the river Tay.
This year’s musical entertainment was provided by 70s legends Slade, X factor star Fleur East, Professor Green, East 17, tribute band Abba Spectacular and a DJ set from designer Wayne Hemingway.
The council hope the crowds will be drawn back to the city centre on Sunday for a “community cultural celebration” backing bid by Perth to become City of Culture 2021.
Local performers, creative workshops, storytellers and artists will all vie for the attention of the crowds.
There will be musical offerings throughout the afternoon and singer Dougie MacLean will lead a spectacular grand finale in Tay Street at 5pm.
Provost Liz Grant said the weekend represented the biggest ever event organised by Perth and Kinross Council.
“This weekend is about bringing as many people as possible into the city to inspire them with a diverse and awe-inspiring showcase of talent,” she said.
