Stunning Blair Castle will play a starring role on UK Christmas television, revealing its wintry charms to the masses.
It’s setting and stately rooms were captured on camera for the Channel 4 craft programme “Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas”, presented by Kirstie Allsopp.
Shooting took place recently, with around 20 crew members making their way to the castle for a two-day sojourn in Highland Perthshire.
The filming was specially arranged to coincide with an annual fair that attracts a huge number of visitors and some of region’s finest craftspeople.
The castle team arranged accommodation for Kirstie and her crew in Old Blair, one of the estate’s Highland Lodges, which is situated close to the castle itself.
It also provides the location for one of the craft items on the show, as Kirstie makes a cosy dog jacket which could be given as a Christmas gift to a dog owner.
Blair Castle’s Scott Robertson said: “We were absolutely delighted to be told we were being selected as a location for this popular TV programme.
“The Channel 4 team spent a lot of time filming in rooms like the ballroom, as well as the main castle entrance.
“We have had all of our Christmas decorations up for quite a few weeks already, as it’s a big job and we like to decorate early.
“Christmas is a big event for us here at the castle, so we hope it comes across well in the final edit just how lovely and Christmassy the castle looks.”
In addition to filming around the castle, the team also took the chance to capture images of the Exclusively Highlands Craft Fair, which showcases the work of craft producers and artisan suppliers from across the Highlands.
The next few weeks will be hectic for all at Blair Castle as Victorian Christmas castle tours begin, Santa will also be in his grotto – and playing the bagpipes.
Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas will be screened on Wednesday December 7 at 8pm.
