New holiday park with cottages and glamping pods proposed near Blairgowrie

The holiday park would be at the Bendochy poultry farm, Blairgowrie.
The new park will sit on the former Bendochy Poultry farm site.

A new holiday park has been mooted for a site near Blairgowrie which could become one of the biggest in the area.

The proposed development will include 24 new holiday cottages, 10 glamping pods, and a camping/caravan area if planning permission is approved.

The park is set to be located at the former Bendochy Poultry Farm site, between Blairgowrie and Coupar Angus.

The plans were submitted in two phases by local developer Heritage Estates limited.

The farm, and surrounding land has been vacant since 2017, and developers hope these plans will help accommodate a rising number of post-lockdown visitors.

The development is also expected to create 14 jobs.

What are the plans?

If approved by Perth and Kinross Council, the plans will see the erection of 24 lodges, 10 glamping pods, and an area for a camping and caravan site.

There will also be space for motorhome pitches.

The first phase of the development will see the initial 19 holiday lodges being built, along with a reception building, then phase two will see the remaining lodges built alongside 10 glamping pods.

The site will also have a playpark, and one car parking space per lodge.

In the plans, developers say the eight-acre site will be one of the largest holiday parks in the area.

Demand for holiday parks increases

VisitScotland responded to the application, saying it will help support a growing demand for tourist accommodation.

Commenting on the plans, VisitScotland said: “Tourism is a key economic sector in Perthshire, generating over £564 million per year in economic impact and accounting for around 13% of total employment in the area.

“With rural and outdoor experiences being a key attractor of visitors to Perthshire, Blairgowrie area is well placed to embrace and capitalise on these trends.

“Searches on our website for caravan and camping in 2021 have increased by more than 38% on the 2019 figures.

“Consequently, we are seeing high demand for holiday parks and camping and touring pitches.

“A further facility in Perthshire would be welcomed by visitors and by the tourism industry alike.”

The plans are currently awaiting approval by Perth and Kinross Council.
